| Seven bowlers achieve career-high rankings; Tahir becomes top-ranked bowler as Starc slips |
Morgan, who was retired hurt in the last match, finished the series as leading run-getter with 278 runs at an average of just under 70. For this consistent performance, he has been rewarded with a jump of 11 places, which has put him just outside the top 20 in 21st position on the ICC Player Rankings for ODI Batsmen.
Taylor was second in the run-getters list with 246 runs and, as such, he has vaulted 29 places to a career-high 55th spot.
There is good news for Australia batsmen as well. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh and wicketkeeper Matthew Wade have stormed up the batting chart. Marsh has gained 16 places to claim 65th spot after his series contribution of 134 runs, while Wade has rocketed 23 places to 72nd after his 164 runs in the series.
The batting table is still headed by South Africa’s AB de Villiers, with team-mate Hashim Amla in second place.
In the ICC Players Rankings for ODI Bowlers, Mitchell Starc has failed to defend his number-one position after he managed just five wickets in the series. This meant he conceded 70 points, which, in turn, has resulted in him dropping behind South Africa wrist spinner Imran Tahir in second place.
As many as seven bowlers inside the top 100 have achieved career-high rankings.
England off-spinner Moeen Ali has moved up seven places to 29th, Australia’s duo of Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins (the series’ highest wicket-taker with 12 in five matches) have climbed 22 and 50 places to 49th and 62nd, respectively, England’s Adil Rashid has gained 33 places to end in 78th spot, Nathan Coulter-Nile has jumped 12 places to 81st, England’s David Willey has risen 29 places to 97th and Marsh has claimed 27 places to finish in 99th position.
The only notable change in the all-rounders’ list is the movement of Maxwell. Following his 166 runs and six wickets, he has gained one place to break into the top five. The list is headed by Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan.
The 3-2 series result means Australia has retained its number-one position, but has dropped two points to finish on 127 points. In contrast, England has earned two points and has moved to 100 points to narrow the gap with fifth-ranked Sri Lanka to three points.
