Nepal-PNG WCLC Fixture Confirmed For Abu Dhabi

Nepal Cricket Team
The 50-over matches will be played at Zayed Cricket Stadium on 16 and 18 November.
Nepal and Papua New Guinea (PNG) will lock horns in Abu Dhabi in the second round fixture of the ICC World Cricket League Championship, the ICC announced today.

The 50-over matches will be played at Zayed Cricket Stadium on 16 and 18 November.

The matches were originally scheduled for 28 and 30 November at the University Ground in Kathmandu, but have been moved to Abu Dhabi following a security assessment in Nepal’s capital city.

Both the sides lost their opening round matches, Nepal suffering three runs and then nine wickets defeat against Scotland, while the Netherlands handing PNG five wickets and then 85 runs drubbing.

The eight-team ICC World Cricket League Championship is contested by the same sides which are participating in the ICC Intercontinental Cup except Afghanistan and Ireland, which have been promoted to the ICC ODI Team Rankings. These two sides have been replaced by Kenya and Nepal, which had finished third and fourth, respectively, in the ICC World Cricket League Championship Division 2.

The top sides of the ICC World Cricket League Championship will have an opportunity to play in the ICC’s pinnacle event - the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 - if they finish in the top two of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2018.

Forthcoming second round matches in WCLC:

30 October – Namibia v Kenya, Wanderers, Windhoek
1 November – Namibia v Kenya, Wanderers, Windhoek
16 November – UAE v Hong Kong*, ICC Academy, Dubai; Nepal v PNG, Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi
18 November – UAE v Hong Kong*, ICC Academy, Dubai; Nepal v PNG, Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi

*(As both Hong Kong and the UAE have ODI status, these two 50-over matches will be classified as One-Day Internationals)
